From the Front:
"I first heard of the JDK brand through Tape Op Magazine and then through an engineer friend. As I was in the market for a new compressor,
I thought I would give the R22 a try. Needless to say, it went straight in the rack and won't be leaving any time soon!
"At first, I used the R22 mainly on kick drum, toms and bass guitar—it performs brilliantly on fairly punchy, heavy sounds. Right
now, it's my favorite for lead vocals. Even when I push it really hard I get a smooth and clear response. I've used it every session since it arrived and it's never let me down.
It'll do almost anything the 'big boys' can, but for a fraction of the money.
"There have been a couple occasions when the R22 has really stood out. When I was recording cello for the latest Mayhew single, I bussed
the channels through the compressor. It worked beautifully and didn't mess with the dynamics or natural tone of the instrument. I've also given it a trial on some live shows to
see how it fared—notably on the vocals of Gaelic folk singer Julie Fowlis. Once again, it didn't let me down. This is a wonderful compressor all around that I'd happily
recommend to any engineer. I'll certainly be adding another to my rack soon."
About Chamber Studio:
For more than 15 years, Chamber Studio has been one of the top recording facilities in Edinburgh, Scotland, and has hosted a number of local
groups and international acts such as Snow Patrol, Mogwai and The Vaselines. Chamber Studio is a primarily analog facility and offers a different take on the recording process,
especially to musicians and producers who are used to working "in the box." In 2011, Chamber Studio will officially reveal its new control room design. Based around a
vintage Neve console, the revamped control room will mark the beginning of a new era for the studio.
